Yet, through all of it Schlapp is focused on the mission that she has been assigned, and is working closely with the White House's policy and legislative affairs departments and policy shops as as the broader communications operation to coordinate policy rollouts. The focus of her work has been on areas like the safety of schools, opioids, and infrastructure, as well as trade. In her current position, Schlapp does not deal much with journalists. However, in March her name was floated to be the candidate to replace Hope Hicks at the Communications Director job. It has been a battle that has been brutal. Schlapp's allies started fighting Tony Sayegh over the media. After the Washington Examiner published a negative story about Sayegh, Schlapp stated that she called Sayegh to show a heart to heart.
